Mon‘-Soooooon-’ Please!

April 7th, 2014. Jumping into the nearest available water-body, partially displacing some water, spending the day submerged & staring into space blank-eyed like a dreamy water buffalo… just one of the many ideas that struck me on my way to work today.

A few other ideas (most of them bordering on the lines of the Archimedes principle itself) revolve around sitting in a bucket of water…. (involves the risk of breaking the bucket) …. making a swimming pool out of the water-lily tank at home (involves swimming with the guppies in 3 ft. water)….
sitting under the office lawn water-sprinkler (involves a whole lot of company policies I suppose)…water fights…water meetings… water presentations… water trainings… water weddings… water parties… rolling on watered grass… etc…etc…etc.

Anything…. Anything to beat this blistering, humid, cruelest of cruel summers…

All that I see when I close my eyes is rain. There’s no music I love more than the sound of pouring rain, perhaps due to the fact that I was a monsoon baby, a monsoon baby who grew up to don the role of a monsoon mother as well. I am now mother to a tiny monsooner who is on the verge of turning four this June. June has always been our month. It is also from the onset of June that Kerala gets back its pleasant weather, which would then continue throughout the rest of the year till around mid February the following year.

Come Feb… and there are these sample-sized warm winds that’d start to blow, signaling the onset of a hot humid summer, followed by March… when God takes an annual break from His 'Own Country'. March brings with it the burning fire & brimstone of a blistery hell. The madness of March is also complemented by mosaics of omelettized bird-shit that sits fried and steaming on car tops all over town... The oven of March spares nothing whatsoever on the way in its endeavor to ensure an evenly baked world.

April is pock-marked with summer showers that one can hardly categorize as rain.  The showers of April exorcize the fury of summer from the heated earth and release it into the troposphere spreading a mild pressure cooker effect all around, further fueled by the passionate Sun continuing with his month long cookery show, baking up, down, under and over...over and over again. Then comes May, and one by one the ghosts from the cooker find their way upwards & swoosh out into the exosphere & one can say that one is mildly relieved…. though not possibly relieved enough to totally let go of the bottle of iced lemon soda!

Ah… and June… June looks like a distant dream now from this side of the year...

April 16th, 2014.  The summer showers of April are here... like an appetizer.  I just can’t help enjoying them though they only serve to increase the heat and humidity all around soon after they pour themselves out from summer’s spout.

My mind is already thirsting for the monsoon. This summer was just unbearable and I am glad that the pressure cooker phase has passed. It's half way through April already, May is preparing to make an entry… and in the blink of an eye June will be here. See how rain changes perspectives. June looks closer now…

Rejuvenating June... with its skies full of monsoon clouds and rain, with the sun just peeping out through the rain soaked trees…

Oh I'm having a rain-attack and I just can’t wait...

Happy B’day in advance to my monsoon girl & me!
